FAQ

What is a bitcoin wallet?

A bitcoin wallet is a place to store your bitcoins. If you want to know more about the different types of bitcoin wallets, click here.

Is Material Bitcoin safe?

Yes. Material Bitcoin stores your bitcoin securely.

Material Bitcoin is a cold wallet. Since it is not connected to the Internet, your data, such as your private key, is never exposed and can never be hacked. Additionally, it is made from AISI 304L stainless steel, which makes it a highly durable and secure device.

How do I know that the private key generation process is secure?

The private key engraved onto each Material Bitcoin plate is the equivalent of your bank card’s PIN number. This is considered extremely sensitive data that only the owner of the plate should know.

That’s why we make sure our manufacturing process is 100% secure, employing a state-of- the-art, open-source key generator and engraving the plate without any human intervention.

What cryptocurrencies can be stored on the plate?

Can I have a back-up copy of my Material Bitcoin plate?

Of course! However, it must be made at the same time as your original Material Bitcoin plate.

We do not keep copies of the data placed on the Material Bitcoin plates we manufacture.

Please call us on +34 900 525 862 before purchasing your Material Bitcoin wallet if you want multiple copies of the same plate.

How can I convert my euros to bitcoin and put them on my Material Bitcoin plate?

To do this, you will need to create an account on a bitcoin exchange platform and then send your funds from there to the address on your Material Bitcoin wallet.

You can do this by scanning your QR code or entering your address manually.

How do I move some or all of the bitcoins from my plate to another address?

The purpose of the Material Bitcoin wallet is for you to never need to send your bitcoin to another address since the address engraved on your plate is nearly 100% hacker proof (unless you show your private key around that is).

If you still want to move your bitcoin from one address to another, you will have to import your private key into a trusted bitcoin wallet manager (such as Exodus) on your mobile.

Each wallet manager is different, but, in the case of Exodus, you will need to follow the steps below:

1. You need to download the Exodus app from the Play Store / App Store.

2. If you’re a newbie, you might be wondering where to register. Or where you can create a new ready-to-use Exodus cryptocurrency wallet. Don’t worry! When you sign up on Exodus for the first time, it will automatically generate a new wallet where you can send and receive funds.

3. In the bitcoin section of your portfolio, you need to click on the settings wheel (in the top-right corner) where you will see the option to “Add bitcoin from a private key”. This will add bitcoins to your Exodus wallet from another address.

4. Once you have your funds in your Exodus account, you can send those bitcoins to the address of your choice by simply clicking the send funds button for each of the cryptocurrencies you have.

What would happen if the Material Bitcoin company disappeared?

Nothing at all. Your bitcoins will remain safe and secure since we do not actually store your bitcoins.

You are the sole owner of your bitcoin.

We are like a safe deposit box company. If you buy a safe deposit box, the company does not even know what your key is, they don’t own your safe deposit, and you don’t really care if they go bankrupt.

What happens if I lose my plate?

Losing your plate means losing access to your funds. So, it is very important that you store your Material Bitcoin plate in a secure location.

We do not store the private keys found on any of the Material Bitcoin plates we make. So, unfortunately, we cannot help you recover your bitcoin if you lose it.

Your plate and private key are unique. Only you should have access to them. If you lose it, you lose control of your bitcoin.

Why is Material Bitcoin the most secure wallet on the market?

Material Bitcoin is the most secure wallet on the market because, unlike other cold wallets, it is designed to last no matter what.

You will never have to worry about it breaking. Plus, since it’s not connected to the Internet, no hacker can get their hands on your bitcoins.

How does the Material Bitcoin plate work?

The private key

Your plate has a unique private key covered by a metallic security strip. We’ve designed it in this way because knowing that key is the equivalent of owning the money on the plate.

The private key is the only thing you need to transfer your bitcoin to another address. You are literally the only person in the world who knows the private key engraved on your Material Bitcoin plate.

Therefore:

  • Never allow anyone to memorise, copy or photograph your private key.
  • Don’t lose your plate.
  • Don’t let anyone steal your plate.
  • Never enter your private key on a website.

In any of these cases, you may irreversibly lose control of your funds.

The address

The address is used to let you, or someone else, know where to send bitcoins and have them delivered to your wallet. You can also use it to check your funds or see your transaction history. This address is something that anyone can see or that you can enter on any website without fear.

Where are your bitcoins exactly

Your plate has no electronic components. So, your bitcoins cannot actually be stored on it physically. Really, they are not anywhere. But your bitcoins are completely yours because, at this very moment, the fact that those specific bitcoins are stored at the address engraved on your plate is permanently noted on thousands of different computers. That’s how the bitcoin blockchain works.

Your bitcoins are absolutely yours. And there is no deeper and more complete way in which they belong to you. They are much more yours than any money you may have in a bank. And, by the way, that money, like Bitcoin, is not really in the bank either! It’s nothing more than a simple entry on the bank’s computers.

You can rest assured: Your bitcoins are on your plate, because on thousands of computers synchronised with each other, it says that your bitcoins are on your plate. Anyone in the world who consults it, will see that it is so.

What forms of payment are available?

You can pay for your Material Bitcoin plate by debit or credit card.

Is there a minimum or maximum amount of bitcoin I must put on the plate?

No. You can put as much or as little bitcoin on your Material Bitcoin plate as you want. There is no minimum or maximum amount.

What happens if I sell all my bitcoin?

Nothing! Your plate will still function in the same way, and you will always be able to put more bitcoins back into your wallet. We’d be happy to give you a hand on +34 900 525 862.

How do I convert the bitcoins in my Material Bitcoin wallet into euros?

As mentioned in the previous section, to carry out any transaction with the Bitcoins stored in your Material Bitcoin wallet, you need to import the private key found on your Material Bitcoin plate into a Bitcoin wallet manager such as Exodus. Please see the previous question for information on how to export your key to Exodus.

Please be aware that once your plate’s private key is entered into any type of electronic device, you are exposing the control of your  money. It is only as secure, or insecure, as the equipment you are using.

Once you have your bitcoins in your Exodus account, you can send them to your other accounts on any exchange (Coinbase, Kraken, etc.) You can convert your bitcoins to euros from these exchanges without any problem.

How long does it take for the plate to arrive?

We send the plates as securely as possible by registered mail to the address you provide. It usually takes between 24 and 72 hours.

Can I bequeath my Material Bitcoin plate as an inheritance?

Yes! Just like a bar of gold, it can be passed on from one person to another.
