Ellipal Cold Wallet, What is It?

I would think it is safe to assume that if you are buying crypto, then you are well aware of the difference between cold and hot wallets. But for those of you new to the game, here is all that you need to know:

ELLIPAL TITAN review

Hot Wallet – relies on an internet connection to store and keep track of your cryptocurrency. This means it is more easily hackable and can be compromised.

Cold Wallet – doesn’t rely on the internet to store your crypto, although be aware! Some still need to connect to apps and other devices to make the initial transfer…which brings us to Hardware wallets!

Hardware Wallet – a form of cold wallet that is a physical object, used to store your crypto that doesn’t connect to the internet or rely on other devices for storage. There are a few options here, such as Ellipal, Material Bitcoin, Exodus or Trust Wallet, to name a few.

Let’s further explore Ellipal Titan and what it offers as a cold wallet.

The Titan came onto the scene in 2019 and quickly gained popularity for its “air-gapped” innovation. This takes a wallet completely offline and does not rely on connecting to the internet or any wireless device at any moment.

Ellipal Titan: Main Features

It is 100% offline and decentralized, using a QR code for making transactions. It does not need Bluetooth, or USB connections, giving you full control of your crypto and nobody else.

The Ellipal Titan uses a 4” Lamination IPS display and can be set up within 5 minutes. Its visual screen allows you to control all of your assets from the palm of your hand as it supports NFTs and 10,000 coins and tokens, including Bitcoin, Ethereum (all ERC20), Ada, XRP and more.

For its safety and security, it has a few options to keep your crypto out of the wrong hands, for example, it has a self-destruct feature – if the device detects any tampering or hacking, it will erase all private information. The Ellipal Titan also uses 2-factor authentication and secret secondary “back-up” wallets that you can unlock with an alternative password.

How to Use and Set Up Ellipal Security Features

When you first receive the Ellipal Titan, setting it up is pretty easy and quick

First, you need to create an account and then you need to pair your account to the Ellipal App.

On the account, you hit “connect to app” which will take you to the connect QR Codes. Select “add account” and simply scan the QR Codes found on the wallet. Select “autoplay” for it to go through all the QR Codes to finish pairing to the cold wallet.

It is a similar setup to other wallets, like Arculus, Ledger or Material Bitcoin and many other cold, hardware wallets.

Once you have paired your account to the app, you can easily decide which security tools you want to use and put them in place, such as the self-destruct mode and secondary secret wallet.

Pros and Cons of Ellipal Titan

Deciding which wallet is the best option for you and your crypto can boil down to a simple pros and cons list. Here is our list that you should take into consideration when looking into the Ellipal Titan.

Pros ✅

  • Has high-security services and unique options for you to put in place to protect your crypto.
  • Its innovative “air-gapped” design keeps your private keys offline and safe.
  • Its technical support and online help make it user-friendly.
  • It is durable and small, making it easy to carry around.

Cons❌

  • It is battery-operated. This means it is YOUR responsibility to make sure that it is fully charged to be accessible.
  • It does rely on a mobile app for managing cryptocurrencies. This can make it arguably not 100% a cold wallet, and also doesn’t have a web browser option for those who prefer a desktop version.
  • It relies on the user to be responsible for its safekeeping, charging and accessibility. User responsibility is also needed for seed storage safety.
  • Depending on location, delivery times have been lengthy and expensive.

Ellipal Titan Cold Wallet User Reviews

comentarios

Like with anything in this world, you are always going to find people who either love or hate a product. We took it upon ourselves to do a deep dive into the user comments and feedback to fully understand how Ellipal Titan holds up against some other wallets.

In general, the feedback praises its innovation and air-gapped features as its selling point, like this customer review from a user in the US states:

“ I researched this very carefully and thoroughly before and after I bought it, and I am very happy with how the Ellipal works. If you lose it, your crypto is still safe and accessible to you (as long as you followed the instructions and backed up your mnemonics). If you break it, your crypto is still safe and accessible to you. If someone steals it, your crypto is still safe and accessible to you. This device is a convenient way to store your private keys, is safe (completely offline / isolated from the Internet), and is not a single point of failure that results in the loss of your crypto if it is lost or stolen (as long as you follow the directions and backed up your mnemonics).”

Or its user-friendly and proactive customer service, explained by this user:

“Of course, the first rule of having a hardware or digital wallet is to never ever lose your seed phrase and to also store this phrase in a secure place. Also, if you want to make your crypto life a lot easier, it is best to not forget your password. Even though I unfortunately chose to make my life more difficult (never again), I am really grateful for Chris’s support which helped turn my quiet panic into self-assurance.”

On the other hand, you also have users commenting on the horrible shipping processes and lengthy delivery times, some even stating that they have never received their Ellipal Titan

One user even stated that “The app is so bad, (that ) I got the Trezor the same day of receiving Ellipal.”

This is a recurring user complaint about Ellipal. That the application is not good and that the actual device is too small for accurately typing.

This Amazon user shares “What good is a device if its touchscreen misregisters touch input? Now imagine that you have to input a lot of data using that touchscreen – you end up with a lot of mistakes. now imagine further that what you’re inputting is worth a lot of money – you end up losing a lot of money.

that’s the Ellipal titan. Hard return.”

Safer Alternatives to Ellipal Titan

After digging into the Ellipal Titan cold wallet reviews, it still stands out as a great option for a cold, hardware wallet, but as mentioned by some users, it does have its faults in usage and potential security risks for those who cannot or do not set it up correctly.

A great alternative to Ellipal Titan cold hardware wallet is Material Bitcoin.

Just like Ellipal Titan, it is completely offline and does not rely on an internet connection to store your crypto. It is made of AISI 304L steel, making it flood, fire and shock-resistant, while also providing a 100-year guarantee.

The big thing that sets Material Bitcoin cold wallet apart from Ellipal and many other cold wallets, is that it is not electronic. There is no electronic screen, or USB that you need to plug in, making your private keys, seed phrases and crypto safe and in the control of your hands only!
